Trustlytics Support Center > Dashboard > Segments
In the “Segments” section, you have the opportunity to create and analyze customized reports about specific groups of your target audience, based on certain characteristics such as the country they live in. Learn how you can benefit from the powerful and essential segmentation feature to take your analysis to the next level.
Trustlytics has set the “All visits” (default) segment from the beginning, and it is marked. The default segment cannot be modified or deleted.
To create a new segment, click the “All visits” button (or if segments have already been created, click on that name) in the top menu. A submenu will then open.
Please now press the “Add new segment” button.
A new submenu will be displayed.
Now you can start creating your own segment definition below. First, add a unique and descriptive name to identify your segment. In our example, we are using the name “Finland German”.
To identify the specific group of visitors within the segment, you need to create a filter based on the information obtained from your collected user and visit data. There is also the possibility to combine multiple filters using a logical conjunction, such as “OR” or “AND”.
Now navigate to the “Actions in Visit” field and select it.
There is a wide range of segment filters available. In our example, we select the filter “Country” in “Visitor location” (Visitor location > Country).
There are too many segment filters to cover in this article. Therefore, it is recommended to take some time and thoroughly explore the list of segment filters to discover all options. If you already know exactly what you are looking for, you can use the search field to find the corresponding user or visit data more easily.
We leave the field “Is” unchanged.
There is the possibility to set the following filters: Is, Is not, Contains, Does not contain, Starts with, Ends with, Equals, Not Equals, At most, At least, Less than and Greater than. Depending on what you want to filter, you can adjust this.
Now navigate to the field “Value” and click on it. There you will see various data options to choose from. In our case, it is countries. For our example, we will select “Finland”.
We also want to see visits from Finland who speak German. To achieve this, we click on “Add +AND condition” below.
Under the first filter, another empty filter appears. Like the first filter, we customize this one to our needs. In the “Actions on visit” field, we select the “Language” filter in “Visitor location” (Visitor location > Language), the “Is” field remains unchanged, and in the “Value” field, we choose “de” (for German).
After completing this task, please press the “Save & Apply” button located at the bottom.
If you go to the dashboard and instead of selecting “All visits”, choose the segment “Finland German” (click on the “All visits” button in the top menu and select “Finland German” at the bottom), only data from visitors from Finland who speak German will be displayed.
Important: There are filters that have no values. This means that you can select a filter for a segment and then find that there are no available values. The reason for this is simple: segments can only be created with filters that capture values that have been captured on your website. For example, if you want to create a segment for Sweden in addition to Finland and you do not find Sweden in the value list, it means that you have not had any visitors from Sweden.
Note: You can select the desired segment in any area. This will remain until it is changed again, or you log out.
Change segment
There is the possibility to adjust segments if the initial situation has changed.
Click on the “All visits” button (or, if segments have already been created, this name) in the top menu.
In the submenu, you will now find your created segments. Next to the name, there is a pencil symbol. If you click on it, the segment submenu opens, and you have the option to update your segment details.
Once you have completed the changes, please click on the “Save & Apply” button located at the bottom.
Important: It is not possible to customize the default segment “All visits”.
Delete segment
If you no longer have any use for certain segments, they can be removed.
Click on the “All visits” button (or, if segments have already been created, this name) in the top menu.
In the submenu, you will now find your created segments. Next to the name, there is a pencil symbol. If you click on it, the segment submenu opens, and you have the option to update your segment details.
Navigate down to the “Delete” button. Press it to delete the segment.
A pop-up window will appear asking if you really want to delete the segment. If you are sure, click on the “YES” button and the segment will be removed.
Important: It is not possible to remove the default segment "All visits".
Compare segments
There is also the possibility to compare two segments with each other.
Click on the “All visits” button (or, if segments have already been created, this name) in the top menu.
In the submenu, you will now find your created segments. Next to the name, there is a symbol in the form of a book. Click on this symbol for 2 segments.
The data will be provided according to your specifications. This will be displayed in a box below the top menu.
